while reading the synopsis of Contact, i saw this: "Developing the idea of the girl in the yellow dress led to combining it with a plot line inspired by the Ambrose Pierce short story, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," in which a spy who is about to be hanged escapes his noose in a dream. " they spelled Ambrose Bierce wrong. I actually saw a really good (french?) short film based on this story in a class a few years ago. they made a film out of another one of his stories, which is about death taking the form of a little boy in the south during the civil war. both were incredibly creepy, and made me want to buy a book of his short stories (i think theyre officially called "ghost stories" which are based on the civil war) and never really got past the first few complicated ones. why is it that a writer can have such awesome ideas but cannot communicate them clearly? i dont know...maybe that's the style of writing or i just don't have the patience to get through it?! anyway. the story contact is somewhat based on is really disturbing, and works really well as a film. if you can find it, i would really recommend renting it. love kira
do you happen to remember that you gave me a compilation on ambrose bierce stories as a present like 3 years ago? ...i haven't yet really sat down with it, but now i'll have to check if that story is in there...
odd..
