elvendoll: (sitting)
[personal profile] elvendoll
three years ago tomorrow i was trying to work on a project i happen to have picked back up last night - color me amused. i had also just taken my writing proficiency exam (which i passed), was happy about [livejournal.com profile] tobi taking time out for me, things with bill were seemingly calm, i talked about wanting to cut ties with my father, and its an entry that shows my relationship with my mother grow.

two years ago today i was sitting at home, not wanting to be alone and not having the motivation to drag myself out, and a little frustrated with bill.

a year ago today i napped; a year ago tomorrow, i registered my domain, after wanting it for a couple years.

1. What was the hardest part about moving from Russia to the US? If you had it all to do over again, would you?

the hardest part was not knowing what was coming.
my family didn't do any talking to me about it - even while on the plane, i didn't know whether i would need start with first grade again, and didn't know how process the change - as far as i knew, everything i had known before was becoming effectively dead to me.
it wasn't my choice to begin with, but i'm immensely grateful to my mother for making it for me, and wouldn't ever change that.

2. If you could instantly assimilate all the knowledge from an academic discipline, what would it be and why?

history - i find history insanely frustrating because of the amount of depth possible and the amount of bias throughout - to instantly absorb the intricate knowledge of exactly what went on would be amazing.

3. Name five books that I should read (and please, list one that is kind of light reading!)

heh... i've been doing light reading for too long now...
1. mikhail bulgakov - master and margarita
2. hermann hesse - narcissus and goldmund (and [livejournal.com profile] quinnclub and i already talked about him borrowing it at some point)
3. tom robbins - still life with woodpecker - you'll enjoy it that much more being a redhead : )
4. tom robbins - skinny legs and all
5. simone de beouvoir - ethics of ambiguity (had to throw in non-light-reading just because of your qualifier)

4. What would your ideal nightclub be like?

its a very general description - a medium sized club, 2-3 dancefloors with good music, room for socializing, strong drinks, medium-filled with energetic and friendly people, and friends having fun. oh, and there would be smoking.

5. You suddenly win $10 million dollars. What do you do?

so much!
i'd make sure my parents and grandparents never need to worry about housing expenses again.
set up college trust funds for my sisters.
i'd buy a 2 family house in cambidge, and either condos or some sort of housing on the west coast.
i'd get an SUV (preferably hybrid)
cut down working to part time and enroll in more classes.
and lots and lots of learning and travelling would be in the long-term plan.
