my car got broken into last night.

the damages:
my wallet - something i have had since i was 17, and it was a present. i hate not having it, i hate the idea of needing to find another one.
my credit cards - all cancelled, and i'm without easily accessible money for at least a week.
my social security card - need to go to davis square for a new one at some point.
$23 - the easiest thing to lose.

my phone - after 3 years of having a phone a year, i was very happy having bought a more expensive one that i knew i would keep for a number of years. now, its gone, and i might need to change my cell phone plan for a new one.

the purse - i've always been anti-purse. the purple one i found in NYC called out to me, and i'd actually been using it. now, the one purse (out of the 4 or 5 that i've bouhgt) that i actually wanted to use is gone.

my backpack - no sentimental attachment, but i need to replace it.
my laptop - i checked the places i can think of - i am kicking myself for not having gotten renter's insurance yet, and without it, its not covered by the credit card or the car insurance. i'm out $1300, as i am fairly certain i need to replace it.

the good parts?
the window replacement will be free (thanks to insurance)
they left the stereo [livejournal.com profile] sol3 got me
they left the various clothes (and my new skirt) and my school bag (with [livejournal.com profile] sol3's shakespeare book)

so far, i've had brunch, run around trying to see if anyone would cover the laptop and spun my wheels a lot.
i'm in debt already, and this'll just plunge me deeper into it.

but, a big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sol3, [livejournal.com profile] zerokey (congrats!!) and [livejournal.com profile] hawver for helping make this as tolerable as it can be.

*hug* I'm sorry. That's happened to me and it sucks, a lot. I've had my apartment broken into, too. If you need a shoulder to cry on, I'm here.

Call the police, and tell them that your cell phone was stolen. Remind them that cell phone locations can be traced, in the event of crime or emergency, and that you've had more than $1000 worth of damage (that's the point when it's possible to involve trap-and-trace for civil damages, if I remember properly, since it's the FBI that does that work).

And if they refuse to help you, you can sue them.

Spud also got his car broken into while at Ceremony.

I've never heard of one location having so much theft...

Yeah, including me, I can think of at *least* 6-10 other people with varying amounts of damage/missing car.

Ive thought that it may well be BU students at times, looking for "something to do" - but without proof there's not much can be done. Is there? (not directed at you solely, just general wonderment).

That's unfortunately part of the reason I dont go there anymore.

*hugs* to you (tobi and elvendoll) both.

broken glass is always for the best and brings luck. (staraya russkaja pogovorka) so take a deep breath and for the next few days try to see how many good things happen to you...
*hug* :-)

I'm so sorry!

I know how it feels... My truck was broken into twice in two weeks in Southy a few years ago.

And people wonder why I'm so anal about taking my laptop everywhere I go....

Last night was a bad night to be sportin' the Camry, my boy Perich got his boosted right in front of his apartment. Anyhow, you are more than welcome to my Powerbook 145b (b as in "better!"). :)

That really sucks. Ever since my car was broken into last year, I stopped keeping so much stuff in my car, especially valuable things. I even hide my CDs under the seats.

At least your insurance will cover some of it. It's too bad they don't cover your laptop (which seems pretty stupid to me).

*hug*

The worst part is the material items that you like are gone. I think I'm still mourning some of the clothes from when some dumbass boosted a load of dirty laundry from the back of our car 5 years ago! I know they shouldn't matter - it's just material objects that can be replaced. But they were mine! I liked them! (You dirty laundry boosting bastard! Whereever you are, may fleas infest your buttcrack!)

got a phone?

what cell phone provider did you have? i have a couple of spare phones, compatable with Verizon network, which you can have.

Let me know @ mhmeln57@rcn.com.

sorry about the rest, but look on the bright side - this is the time you will find out who your true friends are (those with spare phones!!!) :-)

ugh. has he had any luck recovering his?

& thank you : )

i'm hoping to get a loaner one from work, and am working on ways to get a new one ASAP...

yeah, if i had given it thought, i would have put that stuff into the trunk...

i've also been meaning to get renter's insurance for well over a year, and haven't yet - the renter's insurance would've covered the laptop.

*nods*

the bastards also ended up with my favorite pants and a really cool tank top - while i can replace things like a phone and a laptop by bleeding for them, things like the clothing, the purse and the wallet had emotional attachments to them : /

oddly enough, for me, its that my car was broken into and my stuff was stolen - down to a subconscious level, the crime isn't associated with any persons...

i do have verizon...

what kind of phones do you have?

i'm fairly picky and insist on using motorolla flip phones (because they've proven to take a beating and keep on beeping), but if you have one of those, i'd gladly throw you cash for it!

Heh... I've been meaning to get renter's insurance for about 3 years just in case I get robbed. I still haven't gotten around to it.

rental insurance actually covers a lot - anything happening to your house, and your possessions outside of the house, and from what i've heard, its affordable...

From: [identity profile] elvendoll.livejournal.com
okay, that makes sense : )

also makes sense that i hadn't heard of it, as my family reconnected with judaism fairly recently...

the bird poop saying is *so* not true. I had it happen last year and only had bad things happen to me after that. ;p

Here's hoping the broken glass one is true. :)

still want my phone?
i have a motorola timeport, the beige flip-phone, which has taken numerous beatings and goes off when it's charging. otherwise, it's a pretty nice phone, and it worked hard for me.

let me know if you want it, and feel free to take it when you are in NY next time (actually, i have a friend driving to Boston tomorrow, so i could give it to him).

as for the cash - are you f-ing kidding me?
