my car got broken into last night.
the damages:
my wallet - something i have had since i was 17, and it was a present. i hate not having it, i hate the idea of needing to find another one.
my credit cards - all cancelled, and i'm without easily accessible money for at least a week.
my social security card - need to go to davis square for a new one at some point.
$23 - the easiest thing to lose.
my phone - after 3 years of having a phone a year, i was very happy having bought a more expensive one that i knew i would keep for a number of years. now, its gone, and i might need to change my cell phone plan for a new one.
the purse - i've always been anti-purse. the purple one i found in NYC called out to me, and i'd actually been using it. now, the one purse (out of the 4 or 5 that i've bouhgt) that i actually wanted to use is gone.
my backpack - no sentimental attachment, but i need to replace it.
my laptop - i checked the places i can think of - i am kicking myself for not having gotten renter's insurance yet, and without it, its not covered by the credit card or the car insurance. i'm out $1300, as i am fairly certain i need to replace it.
the good parts?
the window replacement will be free (thanks to insurance)
they left the stereo
sol3 got me
they left the various clothes (and my new skirt) and my school bag (with
sol3's shakespeare book)
so far, i've had brunch, run around trying to see if anyone would cover the laptop and spun my wheels a lot.
i'm in debt already, and this'll just plunge me deeper into it.
but, a big thanks to
sol3,
zerokey (congrats!!) and
hawver for helping make this as tolerable as it can be.

Date: 2003-08-05 12:26 pm (UTC)Ive thought that it may well be BU students at times, looking for "something to do" - but without proof there's not much can be done. Is there? (not directed at you solely, just general wonderment).
That's unfortunately part of the reason I dont go there anymore.
*hugs* to you (tobi and elvendoll) both.

Date: 2003-08-05 06:31 pm (UTC)That really sucks. Ever since my car was broken into last year, I stopped keeping so much stuff in my car, especially valuable things. I even hide my CDs under the seats.
At least your insurance will cover some of it. It's too bad they don't cover your laptop (which seems pretty stupid to me).
*hug*
Date: 2003-08-05 06:55 pm (UTC)got a phone?

sorry about the rest, but look on the bright side - this is the time you will find out who your true friends are (those with spare phones!!!) :-)

Date: 2003-08-06 09:59 am (UTC)i've also been meaning to get renter's insurance for well over a year, and haven't yet - the renter's insurance would've covered the laptop.
Re: *hug*
Date: 2003-08-06 10:02 am (UTC)the bastards also ended up with my favorite pants and a really cool tank top - while i can replace things like a phone and a laptop by bleeding for them, things like the clothing, the purse and the wallet had emotional attachments to them : /
oddly enough, for me, its that my car was broken into and my stuff was stolen - down to a subconscious level, the crime isn't associated with any persons...
Re: got a phone?
Date: 2003-08-06 10:03 am (UTC)what kind of phones do you have?
i'm fairly picky and insist on using motorolla flip phones (because they've proven to take a beating and keep on beeping), but if you have one of those, i'd gladly throw you cash for it!

Re: got a phone?
Date: 2003-08-10 05:04 pm (UTC)i have a motorola timeport, the beige flip-phone, which has taken numerous beatings and goes off when it's charging. otherwise, it's a pretty nice phone, and it worked hard for me.
let me know if you want it, and feel free to take it when you are in NY next time (actually, i have a friend driving to Boston tomorrow, so i could give it to him).
as for the cash - are you f-ing kidding me?
