elvendoll: (spring)

so, i took the cat to the vet last night.
based on a recommendation from b0st0n and how easy of a drive it is, we went to the brighton animal hospital.
getting her into the cat carrier (thank you [livejournal.com profile] zerokey!) was easy - i put some catnip in there, she climbed in and i latched the door. she stayed quiet while i took her down the stairs but started meowing as soon as i put her into the car.
she quieted down a little in the waiting room, and stayed quiet all through the exam.
the vet felt her up a lot, mentioned that some flea spray thing is much more effective then flea collars and when she wouldn't be still enough to have her blood drawn quickly, i was kicked out of the room for the dr to do it with other help.
they brought her back out several minutes later, and the nurse was surprised when i said that i had more questions for the vet. he said he'd try to answer them, but when i launched into a question, the vet came out of the office and i redirected myself.
i asked about flying with her to SF, and she said there's only two docs there who can do the paperwork most airlines require, and said the cat shouldn't be sedated. when i said that i've been through her meowing for 4 hours straight during a drive, her response sounded rather condescending. i then told her that she's on diet food because of a cat that used to live there, she said i can switch her to regular food. when i asked for a brand recommendation, she said it didn't matter.
since i'm moving, it's moot, but i wouldn't take her there again.

she started meowing again as soon as i put the carrier in the car.
i opened the door to let her out before i started driving, and she crawled out, and stayed in the passenger seat, meowing and panting, for most of the ride, and let me pet her while she was there, which is pretty unusual for her - usually, she starts exploring the car right away and then settles in on the dash or next the the rearview window. eventually, she did make it to the back seat.
as usual, she didn't recognize the neighborhood just from watching from the window and took a little bit to orient herself when getting out of the car.
she seemed to have wanted to stay outside, but i was able to (verbally!) convince her to come upstairs with me - oddly enough, after panting for most of the ride over, she wasn't interested in water.

i miss the pre-ride-on-top-of-car kitty that used to like getting into the car and going for rides with me, and really wish she'd stop being so freaked out by car rides that she's yowling the entire time.

i got home and just putzed for some time - checked housing ads, replied to email and generally avoided looking at the sink. that'll bite me in the ass soon enough.

i think last night was the best foodlab meeting to date, and it ended early enough for [livejournal.com profile] sol3 to convince me that it's still worth it to go to the club. i'm so glad i ended up going - it felt really good to be out and see people and enjoy the dj spinning some stuff i haven't heard in a good long time. [livejournal.com profile] sol3 surprised me by showing up as well, and there's something great about the fact that seeing him made me jump up with glee.

this morning, through dream logic, i somehow convinced myself that i was doing something different with the alarm then just hitting snooze. the up side is that i remember more, but the downside is that i still didn't get up at a reasonable time. oy.

and i'm not sure if it means anything or not, but instead of sleeping on the bed or the windowsill, the cat was deep in my underwear drawer overnight, and didn't come out of there at all while i was getting ready.
