Stuff!

I spent my evening last night getting stuff.

I picked up my car, drove it to the Presidio and picked up this bookcase first. The guy selling it and I had to roll it down a few flights of stairs because it was so heavy (thank $diety the stairs were carpeted!) and it came very close to fitting into my car completely. The trunk wouldn't close though, and when the guy looked at me quizzically, I said "this is what bungee cords are for!" and attached one to run from the metal hook to the rubber lining at the bottom of the trunk space. Of course, I was giving the setup much more serious looks as I was going up 45+% degree inclines, with only one bungee cord keeping my bookcase from rolling out of the car and damaging the one behind me. Luckily, the bungee cord (and the rubber lining, which I was worried about more) held up and I got it home safe and sound.
Getting it onto our landing was a minor adventure, reminding me what a weakling I am. Luckily, though, dragging a corner along the sidewalk didn't do any damage(!)

Next up was this bed. This I was definately worried about more, especially since I wasn't sure how the bed disassembled. Turns out, it was a headboard, a footboard, 3 beams and stacks of wood. Everything except for the headboard fit into the car without any issues, and would've fit there even if I hadn't take the bookcase out already. As I feared, though, the headboard wouldn't fit. But it turns out, laziness has its merits, and the headboard fit perfectly on the bike rack I've been neglecting to take off from my car.

I managed to get all of the bed out onto the landing, and some of it upstairs, before [livejournal.com profile] owen came by and helped me with the bookcase and putting the bed together. (Thank you!) Now, I can't "sit down" on my bed, as the bed + boxspring + mattress combo is so high I need to jump up to get there.

The evening ended with guinness, which, I was surprised to realize while getting pint #2, was my dinner for the evening.

And this morning, I did one of the dumber things I've done in a while: I locked myself into the portion of the house between two lockable doors. If the downstairs neighbor hadn't been home, I wouldn't have been able to leave the landing area, as the garage door's sensor is too sensitive for the door to be closed from the outside, and I couldn't just leave the garage door open all day.
Luckily, I think my roommate will be around to let me in about the same time I needed to drop by the house anyway.

Congrats on your new stuff! I think that you live in Oakland, as do I and I work from home usually, so if you need help moving stuff around, give me a shout.

Also looking forward to doing silks with you soon.

I like the look of the bed. Weirdness about the locks. If it were me I would find a place there to hide a key.
