The Weekend
Mar. 26th, 2001 10:16 pm(aka evidence)
so this weekend bill and i went to NY.
my grandparents are away on vacation, and we were mailed keys to their apartment - which made the trip worth it moneywise.
the drive down Friday night sucked. bill didn't get out till 11pm, and i drove the entire way, as if i had let him drive the first half, i would have fallen asleep and been to groggy to drive the second half, and that's where me being behind the wheel was crucial.
but worse things happen.
we got in a bit before 3am, and got to sleep a bit before 4am - bill & i took time for him to explore the apartment, see all my grandma's trinkets and laugh at kid pictures of me...
saturday morning i kept waking up afraid somehow that my mom would forget to give us the wakeup call - like that could happen! but i did..
in the end, my mom called at 11 on the dot, we wrestled ourselves out of bed, and after a shower drove off to her house.
having bill meet my mom was surprisingly and nicely low key. she didn't bug him with questions, didn't give him odd looks, just fed us & we spent some time hanging arund her and abi : )
abi, sadly, didn't remember me pretty much at all, and treated me like a stranger...
but she's still extremely adorable. she makes the cutest faces, and is starting to pick up necesary one-syllable words for things she likes/needs - i think thats really cool.
she's also amusngly cautious. she, in theory, could be walking by now. but if you leave her standing without support, she'll keep looking and pointing at your hands and saying da, which in her language is short for day, which means gimme.. and if that doesn't work, she really gently goes down to the crawling position and crawls to the nearest place she can hold onto...
it was also so funny to watch her try to flirt with bill - she kept making faces and saying baby talk at him to get his attention... but the poor boy isn't a kid person, and just sat there - so she'd do it for a while, shoot him annoyed/doubtful looks, stop to do other stuff.. then try again. i was very amused.
and of course, you're not going to get away without pictures : )

we ended up staying at my parents a bit longer then we planned to, tothe point my stepdad came home from synagogue. i was downstairs at the time, but poor bill.. my mom told me today that he looked really scared to see him walk in & rushed to where i was...
which was understandeable... i was under the impression my stepdad didn't want us to still be there when he and debbie got home, and i'd told bill that...
but it was all good... and like i told him - meeting the parents is never a fun affair, so it went really as well as could be expected.
after leaving my parents' house, we went into the city. originally, bill wanted to see the statue of liberty and the empire state building (the tourist in him shone through) but we were pretty late, and ended up not doing it. instead, we wondered around the village nearly the entire night. did a whole bunch of shopping (he got some pretty spiffy stuff - the most notable of which is a very nice pocket watch), i got a dress and a little somefin for tobi, and was taunted by lots of cool shoes that would not come in my size.
i showed bill the coolest jewelry store (imho) of the village, and he loved it... and we had dinner at my favorite italian restaurant, which made me quite happy : )
for evening's entertainment, we were pretty much decided on going to the comedy cellar... as its alkihol and entertainment all in one... only they were full : (
so we headed off to check out the korova milkbar - i had meant to go there for so long and never got the chance to. well, i liked it... but bill was definately more impressed by it then me - i am not too big a fan of bars unless i go with a big group of people... but it was still nice.
while there, i started getting really sleepy, so after a bit we booked it to cafe dante for a night cap & to drive home.
per bill's suggestion we dropped by a supermarket to get a movie (all other shopping places were closed). unfortunately, their selection was far from great, and we ended up getting 28 days. not that i think it was a very bad movie... but i didn't think it was good either, and it made me more sad then happy, which made its mediocrity worse.
we got to bed later then we planned to, and thus got up a lot later then we planned to.
by the time we stopped off at a diner & finished brunch, it was actually like 3 pm, so again our day's activity was cut short, though not by much.
we spent just about the whole day in central park. which made both of us happy...
i missed central park a lot.. and was happy to be walking around there with bill : )
we also, like the tourists that we were, couldn't help but get pictres. with the alice in wonderland statue : )
only this is the part that sucks. when i take pictures of bill, they come out like
and
and when he takes pictures of me, they come out like
and
do you see what i am talking about?
*stomp* i wanted nifty piccies!
*pouts*
after walking around for a whole bunch, we went to have all you can eat sushi (yum!!!!) and drove home - the drive home wasn't as bad, btu the whole weekend was exhausting if fun and good.
i am very happy we went - i'd been really missing new york, and bill and i got to spend some neede fun time together : )
i just hate the way this entry is coming out. i am way sleepy and am forcing it - i just know that if i put it off longer, i'd never get to write it... and now i can write smaller entries zooming in on parts of the trip : )
blah.
*yawn*
