...is that my car caught on fire.

fortunately, it looked much worse then it was. unfortunately, it looked like half the car was ablaze.
in reality, flames from under the rear side of the car were coming up so high they were licking most of the back passenger side.
externally, i am amazed. the paint job looks crisped, the rubber lining the rear passenger tire is gone (i have no clue how the tire itself withstood!), and then door to the gasthingie is nicely crisp (it was open while the car was in flames).
internally? i find out tomorrow.

i seriously don't know how i feel about driving it again though.
i was standing there, pumping gas... and smoke billowed at me. i looked around and couldn't see where it was coming from... and kept pumping. then, as i went to put the hose back in its place, i saw flames coming out from behind the rear tire.
ran into the main gas station. said my car's on fire. kid working inside stood there looking at me... i repeated myself... he slowly walked over to the register and asked me what he can do. i told him to call the police. he looked at me and said 'nine eleven, right?'. yes!!! he then handed me the phone.
after i told them whats up, go to look at the car. that's when i saw all the flames. everyone else in the gas station had already hauled butt out, and people on mem. drive were honking and screaming fire.
this, luckily, got the attention of the mechanics on the other side of the gas station, and they ran out with fire extinguishers.
they put the fire out relatively quickly, and a few mins after they did, the firetrucks pulled up. they made sure my car was ok, put in catlitter under to catch the leaking gasoline & stayed there until the tow truck showed up.

i came home and demanded a hug and a shot.
it was tempting to just keep drinking...
seeing the car look like the trunk and backseat were burning really hit me.

luckily, i got gas in cambridge and not braintree & just walked home after the car was hoisted.
*sigh*
before all that, i was hoping to have a mild and mellow afternoon.. maybe go for a walk... *sigh*

I am so glad you are okay. I can't believe the guy at the gas station was so clueless. If I owned a gas station, the one thing I would teach every employee is what to do in the case of fire.

Hang in there!

He even handed her the phone! Hahaha! Damn, what dopey people...

I'm glad you're ok!!

What in the heck happened?? Your car tried to commit suicide?? Weird, and at a gas station, very scary, if you're in tomorrow I'll be extra nice, and give you a ride for lunch if you would like. :)

Damn, that really sucks. I wonder what caused the gas to catch on fire. It's a good thing they could put it out and that no one was hurt. Wow... That really sucks.

*hugs*
