just haven't been feeling very social the past couple of days... which actually kinda sucks because at this rate, i'll start twitching from lack of social interaction halfway through the week in jamaica...

but, i've been putting effort into keeping my mood at a steady ok, and not doing too bad at it : )

but - i leave for jamaica butt early Thursday morning, and was wondering if any of you have, and are willing to effectively loan me:
-trainspotting or acid house by irvine welsh (jedi?)
-fight club by chuck palahniuk
-do androids dream of electric sheep? by phillip k. dick

(and no, i did not plan for this to be a list of 'made to movie' books)

are there any other books that you think i should read & can get to me?

so far, i am also planning on taking dharma bums by kerouac (which i have already started), nausea by sartre (which i started years ago & never finsihed) and prolly another book or two from my own bookshelf..

anything by jeff noon :)

I highly recommend either vurt or needle in the groove (the other books are relatedish to vurt).

Pixel juice is also pretty good - a collection of a bunch of short stories, i'm about finished with it, and i've loved it

Heh... we rented the movie "Acid House" this weekend. There is a book I've been trying to finish for a while. It's "Chaos and Cyberculture" by Timothy Leary. The whole thing is a collection of articles from various sources. I don't know if you're into cyberpunk at all, but it might be something you would like. I've found myself drooling over it at times. It's a pretty big book, too... perfect for traveling because it's organized into smaller parts that flow together (which is good when people keep disturbing you).

thank you for the recommendation : )

i think i want to stay away from big books for this trip because i do want to keep my backpack lighter, and when reading is like one of three possible passtimes, i think i will prefer to finish smaller books & appreciate the change in tone from one to the other - but i'll definately put it on my list of things to read : )

not sure if I have a copy anymore, but Valis is some of Dick's best work.

Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain is a wonderfully funny and honest look into the life of a chef, and the people who are cooking your dinner. (great read, even if you're not into cooking)

Word Freak by Stefan Fatsis is a fascinating look into the world of competitive Scrabble players, and explores the author's life for two years as he rises through the ranks of the National Scrabble Association.

The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. Much better than the movie (partly because the movie ends at a point that's only halfway through the book). Unfortunately, the book doesn't contain catchy music by Limahl.
