checking in again...
Apr. 15th, 2003 06:32 pmdespite my body's attempts to foil it, i'm having a pretty good vacation.
yesterday, i went to the rijksmuseum, had lunch in the park outside of it, went back for more museum, and then walked around a whole bunch, got back here around 8 and spent the evening chilling in the bar area.
today, i went to the van gogh museum and spent a lot of time hanging out and reading both at the park area by the museums and vondelpark.
i've had a bit of anxiety hit me, but i'm hoping of that was caused by icky girl stuff... i'm bleeding now, so hopefully the hormones will wash out of my system soon enough.
i'm finding the city itself to be a litte intimidating, because its fairly large and the tram system isn't as centrally organized as boston, new york or london. but, i've got time to adjust : )
a part of me was feeling shitty for "giving in" and spending a lot of today just sitting around, but this is my vacation, and i wanted to be sitting outside and reading - the weather has been gorgeous!
and its so easy to forget how many hours are in a day when there's stuff planned into them and 'chill out' or travel time is needed between all the series of steps - not having any of that feels great!
tonight, i'm hoping to get some people here to go to a club - with all luck, it'll happen and it will be fun.
food here has been interesting.
i think i'm giving up on pre-cooked frozen/refrigerated meals because i'm having too hard a time with the dutch labels. today, i bought white rice, pasta elbows and butter. if i can last on that for 3 days or so, i might treat myself to a dinner out : )
walking around yesterday was odd.
the streets were filled with shops, and since i'm on a really tight budget, i stayed away from most of them.
the ones i went into were slightly frustrating because i couldn't find gifts for the people i'm looking for gifts for...
i didn't get overly far, but aside from the canals, the architecture here seems to be fairly standard, so i'm not having the same reaction i was having in london, where i could barely keep my head pointed down enough not to fall over curbs.
but yeah, vacation = good; body that makes sure i'm on the rag while on vacation = not so good.
oh, and i'm finishing up the book i have on loan from
zerokey (which i might need to replace, as its seeing a little too much wear), but someone here is going to give me a jeff noon book, because he got it cheap and needs to cut down on possessions before making the next move.
but, now there's people waiting behind me again...
