i'm back...

...and while it really sucked to end the vacation, sol3 gave me a very nice welcome home, and this morning, having my tightjeans be much looser then they used to be was definitely the icing on the cake.

while the vacation wasn't "perfect" or great throughout, it was definitely very good and very much what i needed.
a neat after-effect i noticed while at a store24 yesterday is that i've gotten into the habit of looking strangers in the eye - i'm not sure how long that will last, but it was an interesting realization, as well as weird to realize that something that came so naturally to me there makes me feel a little awkward here.

amsterdam is a great city... there are so many things that come to mind - the way the canals look at night, the crowds in the park during the day, the modern art museum, the van gogh museum, the waterlooplein market, the ... the ... and just a bunch of really good stuff
meeting people at the hostel was refreshing - it was very easy to see what i was and wasn't doing to meet people; it was nice to hang out with people in bits, too.
the hostel i stayed at was fairly cool - the rooms and common areas were kept fairly clean, breakfast was very tolerable, the staff were cool and i really liked the location. i could have done without being on the same floor as the bar, but getting restful/uninterrupted sleep isn't what hostels are known for.

oh, and abi turned 3 today. *shakes head* they grow up way too fast!
