elvendoll: (summertime)
[personal profile] elvendoll

1) What has been the most influential experience of your life?

in general? moving to california.
in specific? becoming friends with laura, liz, nicola, kristine and angela in california. i shudder to think about where i would/could be if that hadn't happened.

2) How would you describe yourself in 10 words?

a little girl who doesn't know where to fit in in the adult world

oops, that's 14 - bite me : P

3) What qualities do you value in the people who are close to you?

your phrasing implies i'm already close to the person - i value honesty, good communication skills, an appreciation for the fun in life and contribution in making my life more interesting (in the good ways!).

4) If you could be anything in the world what would you be?

an editor.

5) What holds you back the most and why? Why have you let it hold you back?

my fear.
i'm not strong enough to conquer it yet.

1) you have a job and go to school at the same time. that'd kick my ass! How do you do manage?

i only take one course per session - its really really minimal pushing; i think your tutoring on top of work is more ass-kick-alicious.

2) you have had a lot of roommates. What would you say makes for a successful roommate relationship?

respect for the other person(s) and the ability to see past your own nose.
people who don't care about stepping on their roomates' toes make really bad roomates, and people who can't comprehend the effects their actions have on others make really bad roomates.
good communication skills and the ability to prioritize are next on the list.

3) You are always going on adventures. Where have you not been that you still want to go?

well, there aren't too many places i don't want to go - i'm just big on prioritizing.
i think next on my list are paris, prague, and costa rica or belize.

4) You have to trade lives with someone you know for 24 hours. Who do you trade with, and why?

*stifles the less-then-public-consumption answers*
i think it would be roma, preferably on a weekend. that way i get to know what its like to have dangly bits, and get to go to cool clubs and pick up cute gay boys.

5) if you could be internationally famous for one thing, what would it be?

it would need to be a skill/talent i haven't developed/found yet, because if i were to be famous, i'd want it to be deserved.

oh, and i may have fubar'd my mail. if you happen to email me and get a bounce, please leave a comment

i'm going to be bad.
i'm going to steal some questions.

1. taking out loans is a double-edged sword, money you take out to make your life better/easier now will need to be repaid and infringe on your future lifestyle. if you were not capped by your financial aid department, where would you draw the line?

2. describe yourself in 10 words.

3. if you could change bodies with someone you know for 24 hours, who would you choose and why?

4. what is the poem that is closest to you right now?

i like this game, although you don't know me well enough for it :-(... where'd you come up with the idea?

i could ask basic questions : )

1. how old were you when you came to the states? if you could, would there be any part of the process that you would change?

2. have you been back to russia? why or why not?

3. you live with roomates. for you, what are the pros and cons of living in a shared apartment?

4. you are throwing a party, have a guest list lined up and get $500 to spend on it. what are you going to buy? what will the party be like?

and its a meme - kinda like punching the kid next to you in class and whispering "pass it on!"; i got it from [livejournal.com profile] goat.

1. how old were you when you came to the states? if you could, would there be any part of the process that you would change?

I was 9 when i came here, i turned 9 on the way, in Italy. There is one thing i've always wanted to change about the trip -- when we lived in Ladispol' (Italy) my parents went on a bus trip to Florence. They left me behind, afraid i may be car sick on the trip. I really wanted to have gone with them...

2. have you been back to russia? why or why not?

I have, last summer ('02) went to Moscow and Leningrad. why? basic answer -- my bf forced me. the non-so-blame shifting answer -- i had a feeling i would fall in love with st. petersburg when i saw it. i was right. the worst part of the trip was leaving behind spas na krovi, nevskij. masha shkol'nik has a good song on the topic -- "kak horosho priehat' v piter"

3. you live with roomates. for you, what are the pros and cons of living in a shared apartment?

actually, one of the roommates has been paying rent but hasn't moved in yet :-) heh. the pros and cons... the pros: i live with my best friend. the cons: she happens to be going out with my ex-bf, first love. a highly... flammable situation.
on a less selfish note -- i could never live alone -- i can enjoy alone time only when it is limited and has a chance of ending unexpectedly...

4. you are throwing a party, have a guest list lined up and get $500 to spend on it. what are you going to buy? what will the party be like?

oooh, good one... and tough. the only shopping i've ever done for parties has been on a budget of <100 and all i bought was alcohol and paper towels...
let's see... i would pay someone to clean (before and after) and spend the gained time burning CD's with thematic music. i would create and build games...
alternatively, i would buy white sheets, lots of different paint, stencils and paintbrushes, alcohol... drape the floors and the furniture, and let the party begin!

huh - depending on how long you spent in transit, we may have come to the states around the same time - i flew moscow > new york in august of '89.

the non-so-blame shifting answer -- i had a feeling i would fall in love with st. petersburg when i saw it. i was right.
and i haven't been to 'piter yet - though, hopefully, someday within the foreseeable future.

yeep! i'm sorry. though, since you're still best friends and roomates, i'd say that is a sign that any and all sparks have been containable - which is good (right?)

i could never live alone -- i can enjoy alone time only when it is limited and has a chance of ending unexpectedly...

i tend to be like that, too...

i would create and build games...

what kind of games?

alternatively, i would buy white sheets, lots of different paint, stencils and paintbrushes, alcohol... drape the floors and the furniture, and let the party begin!

i've been wanting to do something similar for years - get the furniture out of the living room, cover the walls in paper, making it meet at a twister board in the middle of the floor, and leave out a ton of finger paints and oversized crayons. and all the drinks would be server in sippy cups (its really all about the sippy cups!).
someday, i'll do this, its just a matter of figuring out a quick and easy way to store the furniture - for a previous party, when there was less furniture, we covered the living room walls with tinfoil and then glittered it.

actually, to tell the truth, i am not OK with it -- the "my best friend/ex-bf issue"... but at most times it seems to me kind of silly and childish to get in the way of someone else's hapiness, just because you're "not OK." at other times it tears me apart... what would you do if your best friend came to you and said "this is what i want to do." ?

games... i love to invent games, adventure, puzzle, treasure hunt, and some surreality and plot lines... ideally, everything mixed together. it's almost like another version of reading a book... maybe one day i will create something wourth playing at that mythical 500 dollar party :-)

that is a very hard spot, and i can definately see where you're coming from.
the only things i could suggest would be to look into changing your living situation (just living with a best friend is brave, you're moving mountains in your situation), and ask them to take it easy on the PDA/noises...

in my experience, time does help. it often seems like it can't happen quickly enough, but, in the long run, time helps.
