elvendoll: (stills)

first, last night.
i went to the maul after work, to have a slightly good and mostly frustrating experience. i needed three things - a book for school, another black long sleeved top and a wallet. first, i had no luck at the bookstore. at H&M, i found a nice pair of warm cords for $15 along with the $12 shirt, which added up to a bit more then i wanted to spend there, but was still good, as both items will get enough wear. then was the wallet search. someone shoot me? i'd already been to both filene's and filene's basement and didn't find one similar to my old one. sears didn't have anything, either. macy's had a couple that were similar, but not designed to hold money - just change and/or pictures. arghh!
[livejournal.com profile] sol3 told me to try checking out men's wallets next.
from there, i went to barnes and noble, who also don't carry this book, and then to pick up [livejournal.com profile] sol3 and whisk him away to a sushi meal.
sushi was yummy; the salmon was a little less good then the usual, but the yellowtail, tuna and mackerel made up for it.
from there, we went to see demonlover, which was nowhere as good as this review claims it is... as [livejournal.com profile] sol3 pointed out, the movie seems sloppy - it felt like they didn't have it together enough to follow through on/give depth to any of the good things the movie had going for it.

tonight, i may go to yoga (anyone wanna come with me?) or cramps may get the best of me. if cramps get the best of me, i still have leftover food in the fridge, and 200 pages of homework to be read - the goal will be to only have the TV on for an hour (while decompressing and eating).

tomorrow, i want to hit the club, and saturday i will be sequestering myself and writing a paper. i'm hoping to finish that up saturday night be school-anxiety-free to be social on sunday - and that weekend plan meshes really well with me.

i just talked to my mother, for the first time since monday. monday, our conversation was exceedinglly brief and consisted of her telling me i've talked myself into having SAD and should take 5htp and snap out of it. it stung but i also knew that odds are, she was feeling overwhelmed with her life and just couldn't be in a place to sympathize. today, i brought her up to speed on the starting st. john's wort and stopping bc, and she was a lot more supportive. she also gave me the name of a new weight loss pill she's taking, that i will now need to research, and mentioned that she's managed to get my grandmother to go to the gym with her - which is very cool.

& hello, pms.
i was surprised by how well i was doing earlier, but by now, its definately kicked in - i'm read to snap the neck of anyone who looks at me the wrong way. which was very much not helped by my lunch experience, where two new morons at johnny rockets managed to fuck up every part of my order, remade my sandwich once and still got it wrong. i then went to cvs, and of course, the credit card machine fubar'd for the woman in front of me in line, so that whole process took 3 times longer then it should have.
and now i'm back here, sentenced to busywork. have i ever mentioned how much i hate busywork?

and oh my god - i'm ready to jump for joy - i just checked harvard's site, and their spring classes don't start until the first week of february! my last fall class is on december 12th, so i get a whole months and a half without classes!!!

speaking of classes, here's some of the ones i'm considering
  • FOLK E-100 Introduction to Folklore and Mythology
This course surveys the major forms of folklore (for example, myths, legends, epics, beliefs, rituals, festivals) and the theoretical approaches used to understand and interpret "texts" drawn from the world of traditional expression and ritualized behavior. In this course, we will read, see, hear, and discuss a variety of cultural documents--primary texts in the broadest sense--as well as examine secondary works representing a wide-ranging set of theoretical stances. We will analyze how folklore shapes national, regional, and ethnic identities, as well as daily life, and consider the function of folklore within the groups that perform and use it. Finally, students will have the opportunity to sample a wide range of folklore materials from a variety of cultural traditions.
  • SOCI E-189 Deviance and Social Control
The relationship of social organization to deviant behavior; the identification of deviant behavior and the social response it elicits. Individual, group, and organizational violations of social norms, rules, and laws. Emphasis on the societal reaction or interactionist approach toward deviance. Also examined are the correctional and causal approaches toward deviance, their limitations, and alternative ways to address the subject of deviance.

of course
ANTH E-187 The Archaeology and Anthropology of Death (22081)
This course approaches death from an anthropological perspective. Looking at how modern societies view the process of death and burial, we cover a range of cultures such as the LoDagaa of West Africa, American jazz funerals in New Orleans, and the Berawan of Borneo. We also cover such ancient societies as the Egyptians (Old Kingdom), the Maya, and the Romans.
sounds amazingly cool but is on saturdays, and the new york in film is(was) in the fall.

You should try looking at one of those cheap accessory stores like Claire's boutiques. Sometimes, they have decent wallets. It's where I got mine. TJ Maxx and Marshall's have a pretty good selection, too.
