Mar. 29th, 2004 06:56 pmin my head, today is my first day in prague - i came in from a redeye yesterday afternoon and by the time i showered, it was almost 5 and i hadn't eaten all day. i'm still surprised at how much fun i had last night and how late i ended up staying.
this morning i got up at what must've been 10am, because it was 10:30 when i made my way down to have breakfast after showering.
the first part of the day started on a bad foot - there wasn't any public tea left (i was a horrible person and stole a teabag of someone else : / )
from there, i declined a couple of invitations to go to other places and set off to find the prague castle. one of the guys that works here had told me that tram 1 or 25 would get me there, but his directions got me going back and forth a couple of times : /
by the end of that, i was feeling pretty shitty, like i was just not getting into the swing of things, was running out of time, not doing enough, etc. i pulled myself back together, walked in a random direction to try and find it by guesswork, and found a playground instead. after some time on the swings, i sat down, pulled out the lonely planet guide (thank you so much
moominmolly!!) and figured out a possibly longer but guaranteed way to get there - and did. and then the day got worlds better : )
i thought the catsle and st. vitus cathedral were wonderful and gorgeous and stuff. from there, i made my way down to the charles bridge - on the way, i found a cheese and veggie sandwich for 15K (like, 75 cents), which made me incredibly happy (considering i'd paid 35K for a hot chocolate earlier in the day) and strolled my way around the tourist shops. around then, i ran into two other people from the hostel, followed them to the torture museum and decided to leave them there - seeing what is probably very similar to what i'd seen in amsterdam and london didn't seem worth $5 - instead, i went up one of the charles bridge towers for $1.50 and later on down to staroye mesto - and through the day, took an insane amount of pictures.
gah, and i meant to write more, but between being tired and a group of 15+ germans having just walked into the lobby, i can't think anymore.
hopefully, there's tea downstairs.
