i'm feeling a bit grumpy today. one house-thing has slipped through the cracks, and even though [livejournal.com profile] sol3 might be able to save the day, other minor stuff is making me unusually cranky. and, somewhere, i know it's absurd for me to be cranky because i haven't been good about cleaning over the past couple of weeks, but that's not making me uncranky yet.

i'd also guess that some of this is just because i'm feeling spent - doing the math, it looks like i've only had one evening to/by myself since January 11th *boggle*

because of a truly moronic lapse in judgment, i didn't make it to yoga last night. what i did instead involved getting toilet paper for the house and food for the felines. when i got home, i ate comfort food (fresh mozzarella with cherry tomatoes and then pasta roni), attempted to tackle the mess, and spent a decent amount of time with my ass on the couch. then, [livejournal.com profile] sol3 came over, helped me lug stuff to and from my car (and told me i'm not allowed to be stubborn about such things anymore) and played a game of scrabble with me. yay scrabble. and yay beer, too.

sadly, part of cleaning involved tossing out some veggies that we got from boston organics that had gone bad - hopefully that won't happen again. now, among other things, we have potatoes, yams and beets, and i have this knee-jerk want to put them all together in something, but i don't know what.

and, as usual, there was more i wanted to write about and it's escaping me now.

Cut up the potatoes, yams and beets into large pieces, lightly coat in olive oil and herbs/spices of your choosing, and roast at a high temp.

I also had a friend that would make a dish called "roasted root" that would include things like beets, yams, and potatoes but also turnips, parsnips, carrots, garlic, onions, bits of squash. In addition to the olive oil he would toss in balsamic vinegar, maple syrup and mulling spices - cinnamon, cloves, etc. Again, roast at a high temp for half an hour 45-minutes and feast!

well you can make borscht with the beets and potatoes, and you can make frites with the yams. get some sweet potatoes and cut the yams and sweet potatoes like you would for french fries. you can bake or fry them. add spices = yummy!
