so i call my mom, just to say hi.
she tells me she can't talk because she's running out the door to get to shul.
she then tells me that my stepdad's father was in another accident, is okay but totaled (another) car.
and then she says "there's another piece of news. your grandfather has dementia; we just found out, and he's okay for now - but look it up online" and then says goodbye like she didn't just drop a bomb on me with no warning.

Oh, man. I am very sorry about your grandfather.

Yes, this definitely happens in other families.

jesus that sucks. im so sorry. luckily as scary as dementia is (and you prolly know this already) its super common and if you ever need help w/ resources, i have tons b/c i work with seniors and run into this all the time.
(hugs)
so did your mom not know the severity of it or is she being nonchalant because she hasnt really gulped it down fully yet? weird...

*hugs* thank you

i'm not sure just how much she knows, and [livejournal.com profile] owen just pointed out to me that this isn't the first time she's done something like this - though i don't remember the exact message of the last time.

Awww, honey... I"m sorry. :(

That does seem like a rather cavalier way to tell you.
