I've had experiences that were "near-death" in the 'world slows down while my car is spinning through the highway' sort of way, but not in the 'i saw my body laying on the ground' sort of way.
When I was in 7th grade, a friend and I walked over to the house she used to live in that was scheduled for demolition - the old woman who had owned it died and i guess their heir(s) wanted to build something new there. Oh, and supposedly it was haunted before then. It was a pretty big house; I don't remember if there was anything to the left of it, but to the right of it was a big drop and a synagogue's building and parking lot. We went onto the property and started figuring out if there were any windows we could climb into and eventually heard a voice. It was saying stuff to "girls" and while I don't remember specifics, it was telling us to go away. At first, we thought it was an echo of swim practice from the town pool - which was a mile or so away, but we were pretty high up on a hill. It was Sunday, and the synagogue parking lot was empty, so I'm not sure what that says about the odds of someone from there playing a trick on us. And eventually, an old station wagon rolled through the driveway, driven by the caretaker of the house & his trunk full of groceries (at which point we ran off). At one point, both of us saw what to me looked like a tuft of grey smoke moving across the roof, and what my friend later decided must have been an opossum (but I definately don't think that was it).
There was one time, at an old apartment, when I looked up and thought I saw the image of my favorite great-grandmother looking at me through the window; I blinked and the image wasn't there anymore. I felt very watched over, but don't discount the brain's ability to connect random dots into images.
I'm not sure if I could make a complete list, but here's what comes to mind: the energy, the control, the getting to see someone yield to what they want (isn't there an oscar wilde quote that says something like "the only thing i can't resist is temptation"?)
