It feels like life has been rushing past me and crawling at the same time.
I'm in NJ right now, looking forward to flying back home tonight, after an unexpected trip east to go to
sol3's (step)dad's funeral and spend Thanksgiving with his family.
I'll skip thoughts of/on the funeral, and focus on the more positive things. Like how I actually like
sol3's family, and how they seem to have taken me in. That thanks to a recipe and inspiration from
amber_phoenix, I contributed a dessert to Thanksgiving dinner. That, with the help of my family, I was able to provide tangible help this weekend.
And yeah, after a couple of logistical debates, my family picked us up at JFK, fed us as we stopped into the house briefly, and then lent us a car to use for the weekend - which was also used to transport
sol3's mom and brother to/from Pennsylvania. And we're now back at my family's house - they've commented a few times about how much they like him, and I hope that being here isn't being too stressful on him.
Today,
sol3 gets to meet my father; hopefully the experience will be tolerable.
At home, I've been struggling a little on the social front. I think the two biggest issues is that I've been travelling too much, and that I haven't been productive enough over the past couple of months - which tugs down my self esteem and makes social stuff more awkward for me.
On the upside, I have been enjoying the new home. I think
sol3 and I are about 90-95% unpacked and 75% settled right now, and that number should go up once we get the couch delivered on Thursday.
I've found it to be surprising how much more I'm enjoying living in Oakland rather then the sunset, and I've grown fond of our neighborhood.
