still not up to speed
Jul. 7th, 2007 02:19 pmI seem to be doing better enough to be doing more things, but still not enough to have any energy left over to be caught up with where I should be.
In the past week+, I've seen a very interesting set of monologues at the Berkeley Rep (thanks to
longuer), the newest Pirates movie (yup, better then #2), the True Colors tour's second to last night, and a musical version of Carmen directed by Franco Dragone for the La Jolla Playhouse.
Now that last one, that should've blown everything else away. At the very least, it should've been really good. Unfortunately, it was so off mine and
kittypie's expectations that we would've left at intermission if her grandparents hadn't been with us.
All of the stage work and choreography was really tight, and I could definitely see slight elements of cirque-esque stuff, but the whole thing was full of singing totally uninspired lyrics to totally uninspired music.
That portion of the evening was so profoundly disappointing that
kittypie and I just couldn't call it a night after that, and went out to dance and get loaded. I actually can't remember the last time I got that drunk.
Or the last time a random person tried following me home, for that matter.
The random person got as far as
kittypie's friends' house, at which point we, somewhat inadvertently and then shamelessly, made him uncomfortable by reading perverted sex stories aloud. I'll be happy if I never hear the words "I'm okay with gay people - as long as they don't touch me" again.
The fourth started with a hangover and yummy stuffed french toast, continued to include mellow hanging out and screwing up
kittypie's computer, and then more hanging out with her friends.
My guess is that eating a chile releno burrito after having french toast for breakfast was my big mistake. After going to bed at 12:30, I woke up at 4am feeling quesy, and was throwing up every hour or two from then until 10pm - the last of which happening in an emergency care room, just as an IV with anti-nausea meds was inserted, as by that point, I wasn't able to keep pedialyte down on my own.
Southwest was nice enough to let me reschedule my flight for free with a doctor's note, so staying in San Diego for an extra day didn't cost an arm and a leg, and I was able to fly home after some time to rest up.
I'm still feeling pretty weak from the whole experience, and taking it super easy this weekend. I just hope I can get back to eating normal foods soon.
