I have a really nice maroon velvet cape with black boa feathers at the top. It's from Saks Fifth Avenue and was extremely expensive. (I paid $150 at a consignment shop, and that was during a half off sale!) I'm not sure if you would want to borrow anything that nice or if that is what you're looking for, but I'd be willing to let you wear it as long as you're careful. :)
Oops.. I didn't pay enough attention to the words "mid-length cape". The crappy one I have is long. You should try going to Walgreens. They have quite a few adult capes there, and I'm sure they have plenty left. They're all really cheap, too.
i actually found a full-length, hooded red cape at iparty (thank you tia!) that seems to be doing the trick. i was hoping for something shorter, but beggars can't be choosers... if there was more time, i'd try more stores, but unfortunately that is not the case..
